The Holy See

The Holy See (Sancta Sedes or “Holy Seat”) is the governing body of the entire Roman Catholic Church. It is located in Vatican City, an independent state that lies within Rome. The "Holy Seat" is the seat of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. He is the leader of the Catholic Church and is assisted by the Roman Curia, a group of administrative agencies immediately responsible for the governance and promotion of the Catholic Church.
