EXPLORE CHURCH HISTORY

A Word to Educators

Explore Church History is a fine resource for your online or face-to-face course in Western Civilization, church history, theology, etc. It provides a searchable, constantly expanding database for students. Faculty and students have the opportunity to expand that data with suggestions of their own. Most importantly, the site can promote a real learning community that involves learners of all ages, wherever they are.

Explore Church History, from The College of DuPage Press, is a product of the collaboration between the noted historian Professor Stephen Haliczer and a group of talented graphic designers, editors and programmers. It consists of hundreds of pages of content on all aspects of church history from it’s beginnings.  Short definition entries (which come up first) are intended for those who just want quick information, but those seeking greater detail will find that these short entries are backed by encyclopedia entries and links to web sites and information about experts in the field and their books. Of special note is “Meet the Expert” which provides links to the websites and their books. Visitors can take an active role and suggest new topics, links other websites, and revised entries.

We already have two other resources to complement this site:  Vatican, the Board Game and the Vatican Timeline.  The first is a high quality simulation of a papal election and the second, a very attractive timeline of Catholic history.

Current plans include the addition of interactive tools like church history-themed crossword puzzles, simulations, games, contests, stories and treasure hunts. We welcome visitors’ ideas for interactive applications to enhance and enrich their self-learning.

A Word to the Users:  In any database of this size, errors can always creep in.  We welcome our readers’ input on any issues you find regarding precision, interpretation or style. We have built this site using rigorous scholarly standards.  Peer review is best the guarantor that we have lived up to them.  We welcome your comments and observations.
