Judaism is one of the oldest religions still practiced today. Its set of beliefs includes a single, patriarchal God who has made a covenant with his chosen people. Judaism places its central authority in its sacred texts, the Torah (containing God's laws and commandments) and the Talmud (an expansion on the law, ethics, customs, and history). Rituals of worship include prayers, observing the Sabbath (a weekly day of worship) and holidays, dietary restrictions, and rites of passage. Christianity and Islam both have roots in Judaism.
