Dominican Order, AD 1216

Ordo Praedicatorum (OP) is the second great order of friars to be founded in the Middle Ages. The Dominicans are the order of the preachers; they were also called “the Black Friars.” Generally more intellectually oriented than the Franciscans, they also provided the medieval Inquisition with most of its judges.
