Pius X, AD 1903–1914

Pope and Saint

Pius X is most noted for his condemnation of "modernists." He issued the encyclical Pascendi Dominici Gregis (or "Feeding the Lord's Flock"), calling modernism "the synthesis of all heresies." He also required all clerics to take an oath against modernism. Pius X was canonized in 1954.
