Capetian dynasty

Any of the direct descendants of Hugh Capet, who was crowned the first king of France in 987.

The Capetian dynasty has two main branches: the House of Bourbon, which is a direct branch, and the House of Valois, which is a cadet branch (the line of descent is from a younger son or brother). Descendants of the House of Bourbon currently rule in Spain and Luxembourg.
